Setting color dyes in Batik making process
The final stage of batik making is color dye setting and wax removing.
The object is to set the dyes color on the fabric to stop dye bleeding and remove the wax from the fabric.
The process need 2 materials. Sodium Silicate and soda ash.
The process is as follows:
- After the dye on the batik is dry, applying sodium silicate on both sides of the batik for at least 4 hour.
- Rinse the batik with room temperature water
- Prepare a bucket of hot water ( about 50 degrees celsius) and add soda ash (1 bag) into it and mix well.
- Dip the batik in the soda ash water and soak it for a few minutes to remove the wax.
- Rinse the batik again with room temperature water again.
- Hang it to dry and your own batik masterpiece is fully completed.
