We’ve completed yet another Batik online team building activity conducted with DKSH team members with our Mandala series Batik DIY kits!
In light of the pandemic, it is crucial to be aware of the productivity or build-up stress due to the new normal and its procedures. Team building or conducting team activities by introducing the art of Batik is productive in boosting team spirits, cooperation and most importantly, releases stress in long, continuous working environments. And we are bringing it to you – virtually!
We worked hard in creating an environment that is cohesive and impactful, filled with knowledge as the medium to bringing the Batik experience to you even through online platforms. As we’ve momentarily shifted from physical workshops and events to a virtual platform, there were several factors that needed to be modified to be able to fully reach out and do our very best in organizing a Batik experience as a team building activity.
Here is the process summary of how our virtual team building activity is conducted:
a. Introduction of Batik instructor
As the activity is first starting, we will start with an ice breaking session with all participants and our Batik instructor with a brief introduction session. This helps in removing nervousness as well as to allow a smoother conversation and question and answer flow to take place.
b. Introduction of Batik history and its processes
Due to it being a virtual event, participants are not able to visit us physically at our gallery that has the showcasing of the making of process. Nonetheless, we have compiled our information into a presentation form to be shared on online platforms to be able to educate the participants first on Batik. We highlight the Batik history, and also lay out the processes of how Batik will be made and also sharing of several tips and know-hows that is helpful in doing Batik.
c. Guidance in setting up the Batik tools and materials
Each participants will receive their tools and materials in advance before the event commencement. Therefore, our Batik instructor will be guiding the step-by-step process on how these tools and materials are to be set up to successfully experience the Batik coloring process. There are materials to be set up, such as the paper frame and also getting water and tissues for coloring. Other tools are provided such as the color palette, Batik dyes and also paintbrush.
d. Guidance in mixing of colors
As we only provide 3 primary colors for Batik dyes, it may look unfamiliar at first but there is a fun and creative element to it. Just as Batik artists do in their process, they mix colors by hand, to achieve to color they want. Our Batik instructor will share the tips and tricks to achieving secondary and tertiary colors such as green, orange, purple and many more with different tones and shades by just mixing the colors you will receive in the set.
e. Start painting with the instructor
Some may have the same or even different Batik designs as the instructor, but everyone will do the painting together, as a team. Here is the moment where participants are able to get creative and let their imagination run wild and create something they envisioned. Our Batik instructor is there every step of the way if anyone has any questions at any time during the period of the activity. Participants are also talking with one another, and sharing their coloring tactics and even some mistakes along the way. This helps in promoting conversation and bring the participants close together during this period.
f. End of activity – group photo
The activity comes to an end when everyone has finished painting their own Batik masterpiece. There will be a closing comment by our Batik instructor and participants can also share their sentiments in experience Batik as an activity together. Last but not least, a group photo will be taken by our Batik instructor and participants as well for keepsake on the fulfilling activity that has been completed. End.
We’re pleased to be one of the earliest to incorporate Batik experience in a team building activity, adapting to the new normal and moving on from knowing only doing Batik in a workshop, to guiding Batik art style in an online class.
